Marchington Village Festival

Plans are well under way and gathering momentum for the inaugural Marchington Village Festival, which is to be held on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th June. This exciting event aims to pull together all of our community’s groups, clubs and societies for an action-packed weekend of fun for the whole family.

The weekend will be kicked off on the Saturday with a cricket match hosted by Marchington Cricket Club. The Chawner Almshouses will very kindly be providing BBQ refreshments after the match.

The shop will be running an Open Gardens event on both afternoons with 12 beautiful gardens on show, and there will be an opportunity to treat yourself to some new plants from the plant sale held in the shop yard. As you wander round the village keep an eye out for scarecrows in the Scarecrow Competition! Why not also pop into the shop on the Saturday afternoon to sample some of the delicious wines being offered at the wine tasting?

St Peter’s Church will be beautifully decked out with a Flower Exhibition from 10.30 – 4 on both days. All of the stunning floral arrangements will be available to purchase after the event. Our Embroidery Guild will also be exhibiting their fabulous creations in the church over the weekend, and there will be light lunches and refreshments served on both days.

Join us for a family picnic at the Pavilion from 5pm on the Saturday, when there will be fun and games for young and old and a chance to meet friends and family.

Sunday gets off to a start with the annual 10k and Fun Run, which is organised by St. Peter’s School. There will be yummy bacon butties served at the school after the races so come along and cheer on the runners!

The Tennis and Bowls club will have an Open Afternoon on Sunday from 2pm -5pm where there will be opportunity to enjoy a game of tennis and play bowls. Refreshments will also be available.

Down at the Village Hall on the Sunday afternoon the WI will be holding a bottle tombola and a chocolate tombola for the chocaholics. The Village Hall committee will be providing tea and cakes in the hall on the Sunday.

The fabulous Marchington Singers will be treating us to 2 performances on the Sunday afternoon, at the Church and the Village Hall. They will be performing a sample of their broad and beautiful repertoire so come along and listen for a special musical treat! There will be more live music on offer as the Dog and Partridge bring the festivities to a close on the Sunday evening with one of their regular Sunday music sessions.

Full details and timings of all events, as well as regular festival updates, can be found on our website at www.marchingtonfestival.co.uk .

Finally, we are delighted to announce that the festival will kindly be sponsored by Denstone College Preparatory School at Smallwood Manor. We would like to thank the school for offering their support.
